Salvation Army Collector

I just have to share this.  We all know about the person standing at the entrance ringing a bell and hoping that people will put spare change into the bucket at this time of year.  Today I went into King Soopers and the girl ringing the bell was singing Christmas Carrols!  Most of the time I do put some change in the pot, but I was really impressed at the singing.  We all get caught up with the season and sometimes forget about the better things that come with this time of year.  I think it would be great if more people did this.  Of course, I gave her a big handful of change.  Hmmm, the singing worked.  BTY she had a great voice!

King Soopers--90% savings

Man, this week has been awesome!  I went to King's to get some corn for a recipe and saw ice cream for $.99.  The ice cream in question was in old packaging and I guess they were just trying to get rid of it.  I on the other hand, knew I had 3 King Q's for this particular item and decided that  I needed to go back to the car to get them.  Here is what I got:

3 Private Selection ice creams for $.99 each--normally $5.49 each
3 KS Q's for $.60, $.60, and $.50!!!!!
1 Kroger bag of corn (not pictured) $.88
Total:  $17.76
Q's & discounts:  $16.01
OOP:  $1.76

I just went in to the store to get the corn!  When I saw the $.99 ice cream I knew that I had to go back to the car to get the coupons that were in my binder.  I was wondering if I had room in my freezer to get all three, but I had to try!  It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free items again w/o picture

Through my wanderings on 11/17 I got:

5 Gain dish liquids free
4 Herbal Essences item and made $4.00

WooHoo!!!!!!!!!!

Rite Aid -- saved 96%

Here is part 2 to the Rite Aid  shopping on 11/17/10.

3 Gain dish liquid $.89--3 $1.00 MQ
2 Charmin TP's $4.99--2 $.25 MQ's

Total:  $12.65
MQ's :  $3.17--Gain Q's adjusted to $.89
Total:  $9.48
1 up rewards used:  $9.00
OOP:  $1.35 with tax
1 up reward earned $2.00

Ok, the savings are with the 1 up reward put into it.  Actually I think it was more like 57%,  but the OOP!!!!  Love it when I can get TP for really cheap!

Rite Aid -- saved 95%

Man, Rite Aid is starting to be my favorite place!  Here is what I got 11/17/10:

2 Gain dish liquid $.89--$1.00 MQ
4 Clairol Herbal Essence products-- 4/$2.00 MQ"s

Total:  $13.74
MQ's:  $10.00
1 up rewards:  $3.00
OOP:  $1.62
1 up rewards earned:  $8.00

I walked in with $4.00 1 up rewards and used $3.00.  I figure that I made $4.00 profit on these items excluding tax.  So I went home and .........

Totally Free--11/16/10

Here are the freebies that I got from King Soopers:

I get coupons from King's for items that I buy with my KS card.  Here are a few items.

King Soopers-saved 80%

So I just had to go to King Soopers again on Tuesday to get a few more Mega Deals.  I planned on getting 10 Swanson Broths and 10 more misc items.  Here is what I got.

2 Kroger Premium Selection ice creams $3.99 ea ME items--had 2 free Kroger coupons
2 Land'O Lake butters 2.49 ME items-- 1/2 MQ ($2.00 each which I figure is not bad since Kroger brand was $2.99.
1 Electrisol Finish Gel Paks $2.99 ME item--$.75 MQ doubled to $1.00
1 Canada Dry Ginger Ail $.79 ME item
4 Hormel Chilis $.84 ME items--$.55 off 2 doubled to $1.00
1 Hunts Tomato sauce $2.59--free Kroger Q
$.10 off for using my own bags

Total:  $37.14
Coupons:  $14.57
Store Discounts:  $15.20
OOP:  $7.47

Now, I was going to get the Swanson's broth but they were out of the regular so I was going to get a rain check.  Unfortunately I went to the self serve check outs and of course things started going wrong.  First the second Q for free ice cream would not go through.  The guy manning the check outs was extreamly  busy with another problem.  So he started putting my Q's through but got distracted.  I finnally went over to him and asked about the other ice cream Q and the $.75 Q for the Finish, he put through the Finish Q and he said the other one  would not go through but he could call a manager.  I said ok and walked back to the register.  About 5 minutes later he asked me if I needed something and I said yes, I need a manager.  She came over but need the other guys access code but he was busy again with another customer so she goes to help someone else.  Aghhhhhhh!  Finally about 10 minutes later she comes back and takes care of my free Q.  I could not take the item off of my order since it was part of the Mega Event.  Anyhow, I was in the self serve registers for about 20 minutes trying to get this straight (aren't these supposed to be the "fast lane"?).  After all of the waiting I completely forgot to get the rain check and to make things worse the weather went from about 45 degrees to almost white out conditions while I was in the store (freak storm, but you know what they say about Colorado--If you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes) and I did not have a coat.  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!  By the time I got home (2 blocks), the snow had stopped and the sun was coming out again).  Still I think I did pretty good.

1 Lean Pockets $1.49 ME item $1.00 MQ

Total:  $116.86
Discounts and coupons: $89.60
OOP $27.26  WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to tell you that I was getting nervous when the total was up to around $65.00.  This is the biggest deal I have done so far.  So while I was standing in line and waiting for the total I noticed that only 2 $5.00 discounts came off at the register and was wondering what went wrong (I know I checked the total 5 times to make sure I had 30 ME items).  The cashier checked and told me that I only had 29 items.  He said I could go get another item and that is where the Lean Pockets come in.  I was going to get these and then changed my mind.  Well, looking at the receipt, I figured that they did not charge me for one of the Colgate items and that is why I only had 29 items.  I knew I had 30!  I still think I did pretty good.

Why post a blog?

Ok, let's try this again! I just spent a good 10 minutes writing an introduction and then went to another area and poof lost my post. First I would like to see if I can actually do this (I am off to a bad start!). Second, I have been looking at other blogs recently and they do not always pan out for Colorado. For instance, Walgreen's deals are not always the same in Colorado as in other states. We have a much smaller weekly insert than most other states (told to me by the manager). So my intention is to post valid information for this state. Also most states have what are called "doubler's" for Albertson's, here we do not. Safeway deals are close but not always the same. Last, most states have Kroger's or Fred Meyer's, here we have King Soopers and the deals are almost always different. No Publix here either. Still there are some good deals to be had and I want to let people know about them. I guess that is about it. Please wish me luck and join me on my journey.
